Escape from the Amazon. thoughts
This story was about three friends who went backpacking through the Amazon, more specifically in Bolivia. It was in 1981, and they were all in their 20's. They hired and Austrian experienced guide named Karl, who would tour with them and show them the sights. Before they went to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia through the jungle, the four people made a promise "to go together and come out together". Unfortunately, that didn't work out as they thought. They began walking, and soon after a week there was no sign of civilisation or a village, the three men began to suspect their guide, Karl that he didn't know the route. Soon a fight began within the three men arguing whether Karl was right or wrong. Kevin and Yossi, being fed up with Marcus' complaining about the conditions, decided to travel solo and agreed to meet up with him and Karl in their hotel. Soon the group was divided and they began their road. Unfortunately, Kevin and Yossi realised that going to the river was huge mistake and were divided with the rapids of the river. The two friends were separated with a canyon and 6kilometres of jungle. Kevin did not know whether Yossi was alive or dead, so he began screaming his name and walking down the river. Yossi, on the other hand was trembling with fear and hunger as he spent almost a month in the jungle alone with its animals and without any food or water...
The fact that this is a real story, still blows my mind as it seems impossible for a person to sty alive in that conditions. The two friends went through everything in that amount of time, and faced many challenges and had near-death experienced, but fortunately for them got lucky. As far as I know after I did my research, apparently Karl was a wanted criminal that Interpol was looking for, and people still have no evidence of what happened with Marcus as his disappearance still is undiscovered. In my personal opinion, a person should be both mentally and physically stable and strong enough to survive those conditions and not give up. It is truly an inspiring story about a group of friends.
